NepaliNest

Marketplace software is built on assumptions that do not hold in Nepal. It assumes card payments, structured postal addresses, a national courier network, and a buyer who pays before receiving anything. Change any one of those and the standard platform starts fighting you; change all four and you are building rather than configuring.

NepaliNest was to be a marketplace for both new and used goods, serving Nepali buyers and sellers on their own terms. Used goods add their own difficulty on top: every listing is unique, condition matters more than specification, and trust between two strangers has to be manufactured by the platform because there is no brand standing behind the item.

We designed the checkout around cash on delivery as the primary path rather than as an afterthought, because in this market it is what most people will choose. That is not a payment option, it is an order lifecycle: confirm by phone before dispatch, track what the courier collected, and reconcile what they remitted. All of that had to exist in the admin from the first version, because retrofitting it onto live orders is genuinely painful.

Addresses were taken as free text with a prominent landmark field and a required phone number, which is how deliveries in Nepal actually get found. Shipping was zoned by district rather than charged as one flat national rate, so distant orders do not quietly lose money and local ones are not overcharged.

For used goods we made listing fast and condition honest: a listing flow short enough that a seller finishes it on a phone, with condition and photographs treated as the primary fields rather than as optional extras.

Digital payment was added alongside through Nepali wallet gateways, with verification handled server-side rather than trusting the redirect the browser comes back with, which is the most common and most exploitable defect we find in stores built here.

NepaliNest runs at nepalinest.com as a marketplace for new and used products, with listings, cart and checkout, cash on delivery, digital payments, and order management.

It is the oldest platform on this list and the one we have learned the most from. The e-commerce patterns we now bring to every commerce project, cash-on-delivery reconciliation, district-zoned shipping, and server-side payment verification, were all worked out here first.
